From 1600m there is definitely enough snow to prevent contact with the ground. There is about 130cm of snow on the Prodoijoch. At altitudes below 1000m, however, it soon becomes snowy.

Snow quality

The last snowfall was around a month ago. Some of the snow is very hard and wind-packed. Even in southern exposures, the snow remained hard as a pimple today due to wind and thin cirrus clouds. We found the best conditions today in the narrow north-facing Canale Holzer. The snow there was still loose and soft.

Risks

There was nothing noticeable today. The snow was compact and frozen solid. The biggest danger spots that I was able to observe today were isolated accumulations of drift snow in northern exposures. But really only very rarely. Occasionally there are old ground snow avalanches on south-facing slopes.

A fantastic day in the steep gullies of the Sella massif. Only fresh snow was urgently needed. Nevertheless, it was a great experience and the conditions in the Canale Holzer were really good.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
