Snow condition
There is still a lot of snow. So far, I've never had any contact with stones in the terrain. Only one metal bar was treacherously hidden under the snow. I was just curious to see what kind of hump it was and dug it out. If you hit it while riding or even in a fall, it could have serious consequences.
Snow quality
Still very loose powder in the shade, but it was sunny and quite warm all day today. Tomorrow everything on the south side should have a crust. The snow has also fallen wet from the trees in the forest and has picked up in the afternoon.
Risks
Today, loose snow avalanches have come loose from steep rocks due to the sun and below the Rosengarten (near Paulinahütte) several sliding snow avalanches have come down. There was also some wind last night. Above about 2100m, my tracks from the last few days were almost blown over. Individual snow plumes could be seen on the summits today. The wind was mostly from the north, but also turning.
Overall impression
Today there was pure sunshine, just as we are used to in South Tyrol.
Due to the avalanche risk, the possibilities are limited, but there was still plenty of untouched snow. On the one hand, of course, because the lifts weren't running, and on the other, because South Tyroleans seem to prefer skiing down the slopes on fresh, crunchy snow rather than enjoying the powder 50m further on. Good for me, because I can always ski untracked in safe terrain. Let's see how much longer.
