Powder and firn in the Glockner and Schober group
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Moderate due to the season. It seems to me that there's less than average at the bottom. It's absolutely fine on the glaciers. A bike makes sense for most tours. On the south side of the Glockner, there is still a good downhill slope. There is snow from the Lucknerhütte, i.e. from about 2250m above sea level.
Snow quality
Although very different on both days, really fine. On Saturday, a good 10 cm of powder on a grippy, rarely hard surface, from about 2900m. A bit heavy underneath, but good to ski. (Thanks to wax!) No more powder to be found today, but perfect firn. The descent on the north side at around 13:00 was just right.
Risks
Numerous spontaneous departures yesterday due to the fresh snow and the subsequent warmth. Some of them quite large. If you leave out the steep and sun-exposed slopes, then no problem today. The night was clear and it froze well.
Overall impression
Very nice. Super snow, practically nothing going on and still well over 1000 m of descent. In general, there's still some time to go.
