Snow report East Tyrol-North Carinthia, 11/30/2020
Grossglockner with not so good skiing conditions but good alpine touring conditions
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Snow on the south side on the normal route from the Lucknerhaus from about 2600m. Skis remained on the backpack until the ski depot as it was more comfortable to walk. Crevasses and the edge crevasse are at least visually closed, the latter only very thinly snowed in according to local experts
Snow quality
Glocknerleitl unrideable. Very hard and icy below. Crossing and descent from here directly onto the Ködnittkees too exposed/too little snow. So we climbed down again. On the Ködnitzkees soft snow and fast skiing and nice turns possible. In gullies over the ascent tracks down to 2600 m skiable but rather miserable conditions where you wonder why you have the skis with you.
Risks
Beacon equipment was included despite the overly safe conditions. It was cold. Everything was super hard and for avalanches mostly little snow or very well set
Overall impression
On the way to the summit we only met a few very friendly people. I could have done without skis on my backpack. But I was happy on the descent! From what I hear, good mixed and north face conditions at the moment.
For ski mountaineering you need a lot of motivation for long ascents, depending on the starting point.
