There is currently a little more snow in the Wölzer Tauern region (part of the Niedere Tauern) than in the Totes Gebirge. In the Totes Gebirge there is very little off-piste to be had, in the Wölzer Tauern you can ski/snowboard down most of the slopes without worrying.

There is about 15 cm of fresh snow from January 5 on top of a hard layer of old snow, which is quite soft due to the high temperatures and the sunlight that has been present in the last few days. The snow cover is very wet. Even at night it doesn't really cool down. The conditions are more reminiscent of April. Some of the snow is quite good to ski on, even if you keep hitting the harder layer, but in places it's more like "g'führiger Schnee", in the sense that you're skiing on rails.

Risks

LWS 1.

With the right choice of route, you can experience a nice day of touring, but you won't really enjoy the descent. Further down, you always have to reckon with icy conditions or the ground coming through.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
