Snow report Eastern Alps South, 01/12/2016
Out again today on the slopes around the Plannersee. Poor visibility, strong wind and about 10cm of fresh snow.

Overall impression
Snow condition
In the south-facing slopes there is rather little snow, otherwise 60-80 cm in blown-in slopes also significantly more (up to approx. 150 cm). Stone contact can be avoided with very good terrain knowledge (most sharks are covered with 20cm of powder and therefore not visible)
Snow quality
About 10 cm of powder fell overnight. Lots of wind from varying directions. But mainly from the NW. So the snow is rather felty and not easy to ski.
Risks
The avalanche situation: the wind has formed large drift snow packs. The snow profile as well as the ct and ect show 2 weak layers: on the one hand, a soft layer between the drift snow accumulations (presumably formed by a phase with little wind) which can be addressed with very little additional load. On the other hand, old snow close to the ground (angular shapes), which lies under a thin layer of harsh snow and breaks with very little additional load. If this is the case, crack thicknesses of 40-100 cm can be expected. in summary: where it is safe to ski, you ski on stones and pines. Where there is real snow, it is extremely dangerous! The snow profile will be posted in the Lawis, link in the comment column.
Overall impression
The main thing is snow! Let's see what the weather brings tomorrow!
