Snow condition

3 von 5 Sterne

In the upper areas near the summit of the Tauplitz it has blown off due to the strong NE wind, in the middle areas, where there was a layer of old snow, it is very pleasant, in the lower area, especially on the south side, it is still too little to be able to ski carefree. in the last 2 days there has been about 60cm of fresh snow on the Tauplitz in the nordstau, which has fallen cold and loose. In areas protected from the wind, it is wonderfully powdery on a hard layer of old snow.

Loose powder in the wind-protected forest areas and well bound. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of a well-placed base, which means that you're constantly coming across stones and wood, especially the further you get into the valley. That's why "only" 4 stars. Otherwise it was really good today.

Risks

According to the situation report, LWS 3. In my opinion, the 3 was perfectly fine and definitely in the upper 3 range. From the chairlift, we could already see small chutes and cornices in the steep sections. The poor visibility also made it difficult to clearly identify danger spots. For this reason, it was also advisable to stay in the light forest today. Due to the continuing snowfall and the strong wind, I don't think the situation will improve any time soon.

Overall impression

Today was everything you could wish for: snow in your face at every turn! In flatter areas it was simply no longer possible to make rapid progress, straight-lining, digging out and fighting through the more than waist-high snow was the order of the day. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of a well-placed base, which means that you keep coming across the odd stone or tree stump during hard, fast turns. Due to the strong wind and heavy snowfall, visibility was poor, but in the forest it went very well!
