Snow report Eastern Alps South, 02/05/2018
Spateck-Kleinsölk
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
From 1300m, increasing very quickly and everything well snowed in. Certainly well above average at the top. Nice and wintry below, but not outstandingly much.
Snow quality
Very nice, fluffy powder snow on the north-east side below the tree line. A layer of surface frost on top. Wind influence further up near the ridge.
Risks
The influence of the wind could not be overlooked above the tree line. A track from yesterday was almost completely blown over again. Directly on the ridge hard / pressed / windswept. Old, snow-covered tracks from sliding snow avalanches on steep south-eastern slopes.
Overall impression
Very good snow + great terrain make for a four-star day. Like almost all tours in the Kleinsölktal, this one also has its rough edges (long ascent via serpentines on an alpine road).
