Snow report Eastern Alps South, 12/11/2017
Tauplitz (Powplitz)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Sufficient snow up to the valley stations of the lifts. Ridge and crest areas were blown off and thus ground contact was possible.
Snow quality
The finest, fluffy powder snow. The fresh snow of the days before was perfectly preserved by the cold, the wind influence was clearly visible in some areas -> hollows and gullies were clearly filled with snow.
Risks
From the tree line, LWS 3 was indicated. This mainly referred to the accumulations of drift snow caused by the wind. A few smaller slides could also be observed where a packet of drift snow came loose. Caution was required, especially at the transitions from far too little snow and terrain edges.
Overall impression
Perfect skiing weather with sunshine in the morning. Clouds set in from midday and the foehn wind increased during the afternoon, prompting us to set off down the valley at around 3 pm.
