The ascent from le Casset to the Refuge de l'Alpe de Villard d'Arene is initially on foot - from around 2000m there is enough snow to climb along the Tabuc to the Col d'Arsine.

The plan was to climb via the Breche de la Plate des Agneaux to the Pic de Neige Cordier (picture 1) and spend the night in the Refuge des Ecrins, but the night frost failed to materialize. Instead, we head to the Col du Clot de Cavales (3150m, pic. 2) in light snowfall, then sunshine. The secret star of the day: Roche Faurio, north (picture 4).

Risks

Approximately 30cm of fresh snow from Monday to Wednesday warms up quickly in the May sun on Friday and flows down the steep slopes to the right and left in waterfall-like avalanches (picture 3). It rushes as if you were at Frankfurt Airport!

Disappointed not to be able to climb the Pic de Neige Cordier, the magnificent views and some fresh snow offer consolation. Ecrins, I'll be back!

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
