Snow condition
The approach to the Fornohütte is still very well covered. At 2500m, the snow depth is currently around 2 meters, although the local differences are quite large due to the many storms since the beginning of the year. Overall, the snowfall is still average or even slightly above average for the time of year.
Snow quality
We skied on the SW side of Monte del Forno the day before yesterday and on the W side today, both in the afternoons, both times in powder snow. It was basically quite good, with the SW side having the smoother and therefore somewhat more pleasant snow surface. The spring conditions were remarkably good for the end of February. We weren't even looking for powder snow...
Risks
Basically unproblematic. Moderate risk of wet snow showers on very steep south-facing slopes in the afternoon. Otherwise, the snow is well consolidated and stable everywhere and forms a very stable basis for new snow in the medium term.
Overall impression
It was worth it both times! But of course we're already wishing for powder snow again. It has hardly snowed in Val Forno since the end of December...
