Overall impression
Snow condition
There is an extraordinary amount of snow in the entire Forno area. Both the approach through Val Forno and the glaciers are very well snowed in. There is about 3 meters of snow at the Forno hut.
Snow quality
Thanks to this morning's snowfall, powder snow everywhere, although the snow slowly became heavy below approx. 2800m in the afternoon (on all exposures). Nevertheless, the descent from the summit to the hut was still great.
Risks
It had snowed around 30 cm in the morning. There was no wind, but due to the warm temperatures, the snow in the lower part of the tour was already starting to get wet. At the same time, there was a crust of melted snow on the old snow cover up to an altitude of around 2750m, so there was a risk of wet slides on this sliding surface. Here it was particularly important to avoid steep slopes (spontaneous slides also came from the steep slopes). The situation was rather better in the upper part of the tour. Overall, however, the avalanche situation was not to be underestimated today. The fresh snow that fell settled very quickly.
Overall impression
You just had to be quite defensive on the road. Nevertheless, the tour was absolutely worthwhile.
