Laax - Nebel im Tal, Sonne am Berg
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Another 5 cm was added overnight. Still solid powder in the shaded terrain and beyond 2300 m. Below that, the influence of the sun and the warm temperatures is easily noticeable. Below 1500 m, the snow becomes quite tough and contact with the ground can be largely avoided by avoiding blown-out areas and skiing carefully.
Snow quality
The higher the better, despite the persistently cold temperatures, the sun did its destructive work at lower altitudes. The result was heavy snow and a good portion of Piz Buin. Beyond 2300 m, however, there was still great powder.
Risks
I couldn't see anything myself today, but many tracks lead through areas that I avoided myself. I think the situation is still tense, especially the combination of snowfall with strong winds a few days ago and then another portion of fresh snow on top...for me that screams snow slabs and a paradise for remote releases.
Overall impression
Now that the upper areas are accessible, the playroom is of course also expanding. We avoided steeper things (downwind) today, but we'll keep checking back over the next few days to see how things look.
