Freeriding in Davos
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There is about 40-60cm of settled snow in the whole area. The downhill runs into the side valleys are still possible without any problems. steep south-facing slopes are partially free of snow.
Snow quality
If you look, you can still find good, settled powder snow. You just have to climb a bit. Slopes directly from the ski area are groomed. But if you only walk for 20-30 minutes, you will still find untracked terrain. The snow is no longer waist-deep, of course, but it's still great for skiing. At the very top near the ridge, wind-pressed, the south-facing slopes are very rough, W over N to E slopes are still great.
Risks
level is low. However, something is brewing. The structure is poor. In places there is total grit, which could serve as a ball bearing during the next big snowfall.
Overall impression
I went freeriding with 9 people on the Jakobshorn and Rinerhorn. Expectations were exceeded by far. If you make the effort and climb for another 20-30 minutes, you can still find the best untracked slopes. But of course, there's no question that we'll soon need some fresh snow again.
