Exposition
Snow condition
At the top in gullies and hollows 50cm of powder (2400m), at the bottom at the beginning of the weekend it was really rather slush (1400), even the snow melted nicely. Generally you can find "the goods" protected from the wind, at the beginning of the weekend this was particularly the case with north-west exposure.
Snow quality
Thursday to Friday 5cm of fresh mouse powder on the surface. Up in the exposed terrain, however, the wind did its bit and filled all the gullies and hollows nicely. Without the influence of the wind, it was dusty to ride on a stable surface due to the warm temperatures on Thursday. Effective snowfall since Saturday night, Sunday downwind bottomless powder in the fairytale larch forests.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Steep stories were observed over 5 days and only then driven, the wind was certainly not to be underestimated. Slf had 2 at the beginning of the weekend, then 3 and with today's snow the trend (plus wind) is rising. Spontaneous slides can be seen on south-facing grassy areas in the afternoon, not particularly large. No cracks, snow planks or humming noises. As I said, reassessment requested tomorrow for sure!
Overall impression
A weekend with everything you could wish for: stable conditions for steep couloirs, always freshies to find downwind - and these are not so-called "pockets" but entire slopes or long couloirs. Madness! Then 20cm of fresh snow, which is cool with wind in the fairytale larch forest and a contrast to the alpine gully scrambling of the last few days. Schnapero and ukulele jam every day - 5 stars would actually be fair ;) The next few days will see a few more centimetres fall in Graubünden and good conditions in the forests away from the wind!
