Snow condition
The snow conditions on Lake Achensee are acceptable. During the last snowfall, the area got quite a lot of fresh snow. You can get down well in the sparse forest and forest aisles. Snow-covered ice nodules from old avalanche cones lurk in gullies. The wind has transported a lot of snow and blown off ridges. You still need to watch out for sharks.
Snow quality
The fresh snow is still nice and powdery on the north side and has settled a little by now. However, the wind has caused the powdery snow to lie in gullies and hollows. It was also really good to ski there. However, you have to be careful on ridges and larger open areas, where you can get through to the rain crust or where there is no more snow on an icy crust in exposed places. As the snow depth and quality changes quickly, you shouldn't be in maximum send mode.
Risks
There were many avalanche cones to be seen. Some of them were older ones, where the snowpack had probably slipped off as a sliding snow avalanche during the rainy period. But there were also avalanche cracks in the fresh snow, which had already settled a little more in the meantime. Nevertheless, we turned around a few hundred meters below the summit today to avoid steeper open slopes. We were only on the north side, and with the higher temperatures on the south side, we had to watch out for wet loose snow avalanches as the day progressed.
Overall impression
Today there was a wonderful view of Lake Achensee and, with a little feel for the terrain, a good descent between bushes and shrubs. The rain crust made it a little less fun in some places, but if you kept to the gullies and hollows, you could still have undisturbed fun in the powder snow.
