Snow condition
Still (very) little snow. However, the (relatively) little fresh snow over the last few days has made it look increasingly wintry.
Snow quality
Dry fresh snow, which was nice and loose in areas protected from the wind.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: low
Altitude: 1100 m – 1700 m
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
We stayed below the tree line today. No danger signs yesterday (low wind and low snowfall). Today, due to the storm, drifting snow also in the forest area.
Overall impression
We spent the weekend on the Styrian Seeberg (Seewiesen / Hochschwab). On both days there was repeated snowfall, on Sunday then medium intensity with a total of 5-10 cm of fresh snow. According to the LWD weather stations, there should be noticeably more fresh snow towards the north (Niederalpl). Overall, it's now much better than a week ago. With careful tour selection and caution in the terrain, the conditions are quite suitable for skiing. In the mini ski area on the Styrian Seeberg, which was closed today due to a storm, we even found a few nice (albeit short) ski slopes with real powder, which in places was much deeper than a mouse's knee. Therefore clearly 2 stars. At least an enjoyable ascent is already possible in the forest.
