POWDERDAY auf First und Kl. Scheidegg
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Absolutely fantastic winter conditions. There has probably never been so much snow in the valley since 1999. And certainly not so early in the season (early Feb.). The base is perfect.
Snow quality
There was about 40-50cm of fresh snow from the valley to the mountain today. On the south side, you can still feel the hard old snow crust in places. In the other exposures or in the forest, however, everything was as soft as butter. All the precipitation with little wind, so the snow is all the fluffier.
Risks
considerable. However, as the wind was rather weak during the precipitation, I don't consider it to be critical. I didn't see any spontaneous avalanches or remote releases today. The layers are relatively well connected. However, caution is certainly called for on steep slopes. After all, there was a fatal avalanche accident in the Bernese Oberland today. :-(
Overall impression
It could hardly be better. And from tomorrow the visibility will also be good. There was practically no skiing above the tree line today due to the poor visibility.
