Snow condition
There is a lot of snow in the Jungfrau Region. Well above average for the season - mountain to valley. High in the Alps, the mountains are heavily blown down. The Eiger is almost black.
Snow quality
On Friday, the snow was still perfect, at least on the north side. But in the night to Saturday there was a lot of wind (80-100 km/h). This led to extensive accumulations of drifting snow and a partially hard-packed snow surface. The higher and more exposed, the worse. However, there are still some beautiful slopes in more sheltered places, especially below 2000m above sea level.
Risks
On Saturday, the bulletin was tightened from moderate to considerable, and this without snowfall. Only due to the wind/drifting snow. And rightly so! It has become tricky, especially on steep terrain and close to the crest. New snow will fall tomorrow, Monday, which will make it even more difficult to recognize the accumulations of drifting snow.
Overall impression
I was freeriding with 12 people from the Alpine Club (in 2 groups) on First and Kleine Scheidegg. Despite everything, we had a pretty good day. And if you were looking for something and could read the terrain, you could still find fantastic slopes. For example in White Hare (except the top part). Or the big Tschuggencouloir.
We skied the different variants of the Jungfrau Region freeride guide. (www.freerideguide.ch)
