Powdering in the Haslital
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Strongly dependent on the altitude. Above the 2000m mark it is above average, even in all exposures - below that it quickly becomes less so. Downhill skiing up to approx. 1000m is not possible.
Snow quality
As we were only moving in the altitude range between 2400 and 2000m, the conditions were very powdery. On the south side, the whole thing was quickly baked by the sun from 11am. On the shaded side, it remained light until late. Underneath and the piste in general was pretty grotty: 1* level
Risks
Lots of loose snow avalanches from sunlit slopes. All the steeper terrain that you had started on the south side slid behind you. Depending on your choice of terrain, this can end badly. Lots of sliding snow cracks - some of which have now been snowed over again and are now beautiful terrain obstacles/terrain traps.
Overall impression
Unexpectedly good weather, good powder, no stress, great panorama over the sea of fog result in a subjective 4 stars.
