Snow report Jungfrau Region, 02/27/2016
There is still very little snow for the season, but at least it is of good quality.tour carried out on 28.2.2016: White Hare descent, Kleine Scheidegg (variant 16 in the Freeride Guide Jungfrau Region)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Clearly below average for the season in the Kleine Scheidegg area. First is better. The approach to the White Hare variant is practically closed. Everything blown off. Even on the descent, you have to be careful and expect stones. There is very little snow below Alpiglen. However, the valley descent is open (snow-covered)
Snow quality
Yesterday, the Föhn wind blew very strongly during the day, but the White Hare variant was spared under the protection of the north face of the Eiger and the snow quality was still excellent in the evening. However, there was only 10cm of fresh snow on stony ground in places (be careful!) There was also little other fresh snow in this region. Approx. 10-20cm, which means you can still feel the hard base. Nevertheless, you could really enjoy the main slope.
Risks
considerably from 2200m in the northern sector, but I would estimate the danger to be lower due to the small amount of fresh snow. The variant starts at 2300m, and the critical amount of fresh snow was not reached there. In higher regions, however, the danger is certainly to be assessed differently.
Overall impression
We urgently need a meter of snow without a storm. After all, the next front is on its way. On the north side and at higher altitudes, it could still be good. On the south side, however, it's almost green up to 1500m and the fresh snow in March won't stay there much longer. www.freerideguide.ch
