Endlich wieder Powder in der Jungfrau Region
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
After 4 weeks of fine weather, snow has finally fallen again. More intense precipitation will follow and should bring massive amounts of fresh snow above 2000m. Below that, rain is more likely. (Experience shows that the snow line in the Bernese Oberland is always slightly higher than forecast in W winds). After the very mild and dry February, the snow conditions are now about average. Thanks to the large amounts of snow from January, descents up to 1000m are still possible without any problems, especially on the north side. South-facing slopes are now thawing out in the lower part. High alpine slopes are completely bare. Eiger west flank, Nollen (Mönch) and also the Jungfrau/Silberhorn are practically snow-free. (Consequence of the wind).
Snow quality
There was about 30cm on the Schilthorn above 1800m. However, there was also a lot of wind. But the snow was still good to ski on. Below 2000m and on the south side, the snow got heavier as the day progressed.
Risks
tricky. The snow has fallen with a lot of wind. It was also stormy today and further large amounts of precipitation with strong winds will follow. However, as we observed yesterday, this leaves some people quite cold. There are still people without equipment, bad skiers who just follow the tracks...
Overall impression
Winter has not yet admitted defeat and is making a fine comeback. Spring is coming well.
