Like man, like snow: he feels spring! Unfortunately, this has less pleasant consequences for us. Since my last visit to the Lötschental around a month ago, the snow has literally liquefied. Skiing on the south-facing slopes is finished below 2000m. On the opposite north side, with a little imagination and good will, you can still ski down into the valley. At higher altitudes, where the snow melt is delayed, the snow conditions are still good but not plentiful.

The day before, we were very disappointed with the miserable snow conditions in Binntal. This was due to the strong winds that always seem to prevail there. In the Lötschental, on the other hand, we were really compensated. The steep northern flanks were still powdery, followed by silky-fine slush. On the south side, however, the snow should become damp and deep very quickly.

Risks

Low for dry avalanches. Where there is no sun and the heat is unable to thaw the snow, deep floating snow has formed in places. Many slopes have already been emptied down to the bottom. The risk of wet snow slides is therefore only moderate. The fresh snow from the weekend is generally falling on a snow cover that is strongly influenced by wind, sun and warmth.

Overall impression

An amazing day and probably one of the most exciting and challenging ski tours in the Lötschental. The "dark" side of the Lötschental still hides many an adventurous line. line hidden away. But now it's supposed to snow again!

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
