Freeriden auf First nach Saisonschluss
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
In Grindelwald, around 70cm of fresh snow has fallen at 1200m above sea level. Even more on the mountain. Above 1600 m there is still a blanket of snow underneath. At 2000m there is about the average amount of snow for the season. This snowfall is a blessing for the high mountains. Before that, everything was blown over and the glaciers and steep flanks were bare.
Snow quality
Super powder, but snow has become heavy on the ridge side. On the north side, however, it should remain in perfect condition for a few more days.
Risks
Considerably. However, the snow has finally fallen without wind. The snow cover stabilizes relatively quickly at this time of year. But caution is advised on steep north-facing slopes.
Overall impression
A dream day. The First ski area is already closed. But the First cable car is still running for the tourists and the skiers were transported without any problems today. Thanks to the Firstbahn!
So you could powder where there are usually pistes. First - Bort was awesome in the morning. For the next few days I recommend White Hare or Schilthorn. see the Freeride Guide Jungfrau Region, available at www.freerideguide.ch
