Snow report Jungfrau Region, 04/21/2017

Ice sea descent to Zäsenberg, via the Oberen Ischmeer to the winter summit of the Paffenstecki and from the Schneekuppe (3200m) over the northern flank to the Zäsenberg. Then paraglide back to Grindelwald. Rather arduous descent on foot via the Glets

The glaciers in the Jungfrau Region are well covered in snow. Conditions are good high up in the Alps. On the other hand, the snow conditions at lower altitudes (below 2000m) have been poor all season. The snowmelt is probably a month ahead of the long-term average. This means that you have to reckon with longer walks on the descents into the valley. Or you can take a paraglider with you to cover the lower part, as we did after the Eismeer descent.

Wearing on the south side, still best powder snow on the north side. 40-50cm of fresh snow from last week. This week there will be as much more. After that, the tour should be doable again.

Risks

The uppermost slope is very steep (45°) for about 40m, after that everything is 35-40°. However, the snow is now settling relatively quickly. On Saturday, the bulletin was still considerable on the north side.

Overall impression

One of the most unknown, loneliest and rarely undertaken ski tours in the Jungfrau Region was one of the most beautiful descents I have ever done. The best powder at 1100 meters altitude in the fall line with a perfect inclination (35-40°) and exposure (N). For years I've always looked up at this slope from Grindelwald..., so it's even nicer to see our tracks in it from the village

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
