Snow report Jungfrau Region, 11/21/2015

Quite an acceptable start to the season... All alone in the First ski area. For the classic freeride descents as described in the Freeride Guide Jungfrau Region (www.freerideguide.ch), you need a bit more base. But since the ski

This means that at all altitudes there is a puffy wet snow base on which the best and lightest powder lies. This base layer prevents the snow from sinking to the ground. If you know the terrain from summer, you can avoid the stones a little. Basically, it is almost all pastureland. The descent into the valley is easy with the necessary caution. I didn't hit a single stone.

Risks

The gradual fall in the snow line, probably starting at over 2500m, was certainly an advantage for the whole season. The ground did not freeze beforehand, but it was also very dry. The first snow on the uneven terrain shouldn't exactly start to slide yet, even if the critical amount of fresh snow has certainly been reached.

Good for the start. However, the terrain is still uneven and the driving style requires great caution. We still need more snow, but we've made a start. Three days ago you could still get up to the Faulhorn (2600m) on a mountain bike. Surprisingly, there is still no snow cannon running in the entire ski area, although it was -9 degrees on First and practically windless. The Jungfrau Region has weekend operations for the time being as soon as there is enough snow. Kl. Scheidegg - Männlichen is open continuously from 5.12., First and Schilthorn only from 12.12.2015.
