Hasliberg - Autumn storm in the powder
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Certainly good. If it doesn't thaw too much this week, the ski resorts will hopefully not need the snow cannons at all this year. In wind-protected higher altitudes of 1500+, the powder is certainly still 50cm deep before you get to the base (snow but also meadow, e.g. south-facing)
Snow quality
A little wind cardboard at the top, then old-school training powder (a little heavier and not too fast), and then spring glue slush at the bottom
Risks
Ground avalanches can be observed and experienced from the south up to high altitudes on steep slopes. Fishmouths on all steeper lower meadows and deciduous slopes.
Overall impression
A great training and test weekend - with all the fog, snow and rain, the additional steam column means that even the best membrane is put to the test due to the strenuous conditions. On sticks and stones, the lower back muscles, knee and ankle ligaments, edges, bases, bindings and shoe buckles are put to the test once again. And before you know it, the shopping list will be expanded considerably at the start of the season, but all that is forgotten when you get your first taste of real snow. Better than burying your head in the sand!
