Snow condition
The forecast was for 20-30 cm of fresh snow. But with the strong easterly wind there was an 80 on the Oberjoch. Almost too much, so you could hardly make any progress in untracked terrain. The holes were filled with the wind and there were hardly any stones to be seen on the scree slopes. The situation was completely different on männlichen and kleine Scheidegg. Here there was actually only about 20cm. The ground is still noticeable. There is little snow below 1600m, especially in the forest.
Snow quality
Despite the wind, the snow wasn't wind-packed, but it wasn't super light either. The wind must have died down a bit in the last few hours of snowfall.
Risks
I had a good feeling. I could see spontaneous avalanches and cracks. But with the Föhn storm at altitude, it can now become dangerous.
Overall impression
Absolute top day. And no people off-piste. Neither yesterday on FIRST nor today on Kleine Scheidegg.
Be careful, the hospitals are full and are turning away injured people.
