Snow condition

The snow cover is well above average for the time of year at all altitudes. The base is very good and compact. The layers are well bonded together.

On 29.12. we had another fantastic winter's day. In the morning, everything was covered in snow and there were no tracks. It was very cold. In the valley it was minus 10 degrees, at the top about -20. But with the sun it got warmer, around zero degrees in the evening. On 30.12. it was still zero degrees in the morning, but the warm front had already pushed over the cold air, so that it rained even at zero degrees. The precipitation intensified towards the evening and in the Bernese Oberland it once again rained well above 2000m. In addition, the storm on the Lauberhorn and the Eiger glacier has swept away all the cretes, so it looks like fall. Springtime skiing is the order of the day tomorrow. But at least there are snow fronts in sight again for next week.

Risks

The snow cover is rain-soaked up to approx. 2500m. Danger of wet snow slides. There were very large drift snow drifts above. The conditions are no longer ideal at the moment. When it gets cooler in the new year, the snow cover will stabilize again.

Overall impression

The dream winter takes a short break... We also need to recover. But new fronts are already on the horizon, even if it will be mild for the time being.

Happy New Year to all and happy powder days in 2018.

Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
