Stone Contact avoidable

The snow conditions on the Nockspitze allow descents of most variants including Leintuch and NE and NW gullies. You can also still get through under the old Birgitzköpfl piste. A descent to Götzens is also still possible without any problems.

Snow quality

Hard, pressed snow
Breakable crust
Wet snow
Slush
Firn
Powder snow
Jelly snow

In terms of snow quality, the star rating is not very informative. There's almost everything and in some places it alternates on a very small scale between bearing and brittle harsch, as well as puvler, sulz and sizzling firn. At the moment, it's certainly better to look for firn than to ski shady lines like I did today. However, as expected, the snow at the summit was already too soft for me to venture into it shortly after 11am today.

Risks

Diurnal warming
West

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

Daytime warming is probably the main danger and an early departure is advisable for sunny lines.

Worse

Suddenly I was in the Axamer Lizum and not, as I had hoped, in Kühtai. Probably got on the wrong ski bus while half asleep... A spontaneous plan B had to be found. Once again the Nockspitze. There was another gully where I had seen a nice track last winter. Now that the avalanche situation finally allows steeper descents and you no longer have to think about the old snow problem everywhere, you can do something like that. Unfortunately, the NW orientation was not the best choice, as the western flank of the Nockspitze is currently a sea of avalanche boulders (the ascent through the Mairrinne is also rather unpleasant at the moment, even if it is completely feasible). You could have anticipated this - but I didn't. The descent through the gully was rather difficult in terms of skiing technique. The only fun was the adrenaline rushes in short no-fall zones and the fantastic rocky landscape in beautiful weather with pretty lenticular clouds. The descent over the flatter northern slopes and then over the closed piste to Götzens brought some soft snow and skiing pleasure. You only have to unbuckle twice on the Götzner piste for road crossings. Otherwise there is snow on the piste right down into the valley. However, it would probably have been more rewarding to set off earlier, which would have allowed safe skiing on the eastern slopes.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
