Overall impression
Snow condition
Really very good for April, there hasn't been this much snow for a long time. We also found between 10-20cm of fresh snow today on Saturday. Almost all the crevasses on the glacier itself were covered in snow. Most of them were without ropes. But I would be very careful down in the crevasse zone. The descent to the Gepatschhaus is possible without any problems.
Snow quality
In the morning it was still really fluffy fresh snow, but towards midday it became very heavy due to the rising temperatures. Above 3000m, however, the snow was still good around midday; the problem there was more the wind, which had blown away the fresh snow in the last few days.
Risks
According to the LLB, there was warning level 1 below 3000m on 14.4.18, warning level 2 above, as the problem here was the fresh drift snow. The danger increases with the warming. The main danger on this day came from the heat. At around 13:30 it was around 8-10 degrees at an altitude of 2000m. Even on the approach to the glacier, you realize that the last few days must have been very critical. Numerous ground snow avalanches have come down over the pass road. At the moment, only one side of the road is open, the other is largely still buried.
Overall impression
Super day and fantastic weather. The conditions were finally right and we were able to ski from the Weißseespitze via the Munich variant to the Gepatschhaus.
