Snow condition
In the valley from the Taschachhaus towards Ölgrubenkopf and -spitzen etc. there are some tufts of grass sticking out, in places there is only 30cm of snow here. Today we skied from Ölgrubenjoch to Fernergries, with short carrying passages between individual snow bands we were able to ski down to about 2000m. Apart from that, we always had enough snow on the tour and were always higher than 2700m. Even the crevasses still seem to be well covered in snow.
Snow quality
We skied quite a lot of broken snow. On Thursday on the Gepatschferner it was skiable, on Saturday morning on the Taschachferner it was extremely difficult to ski - the most pleasant thing here was the rutted mogul slope below the Wildspitze. However, this was mainly due to the fact that we had planned certain peaks and huts and therefore planned the tours less according to snow quality. Hochvernagtspitze and Schwarzwandspitze had mostly beautiful firn on Friday. Today we had perfect firn from top to bottom on the Ölgrubenkopf and on the descent from the Ölgrubenjoch to the Fernergries, 1400m of enjoyable skiing on the north side, there was still some powder to be found, on the Guslaspitze there was still great powder on Friday according to other tourers and on Saturday we saw dust on every turn on the Taschachwand.
Risks
On the Hochvernagtspitze on Friday, a group in front of us triggered a small snow slab on the summit slope on the south-east side, which is about 40 degrees steep. Before that, 15 people had already skied down this very slope and 20 had climbed up. Over a width of about 2 meters, the edge of the crack was 1.5 m high, next to it only about 30 cm. On the Ölgrubenkopf there was a board in exactly the same exposure today. I think drift snow is still an issue, especially on the north side, and of course you have to pay attention to the diurnal variation.
Overall impression
Subjectively that would be 5 stars! Fantastic weather, climbed the Wildspitze before the big rush and today 1400m dream descent
