East-facing ski tour Steinberg (1886m) from Windautal - got up too late
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
The wind has transported a lot of snow out of the northern slopes, so I would still expect ground contact there. On the east-facing route, you have to be careful in a few places (streams etc.), otherwise we were able to ski down today without hesitation.
Snow quality
I had hoped for better. Up to approx. 1700 m, the powder was nice to ride, but only a maximum of 15 cm of it. Below that, a light cap that had formed today often interfered with the skiing pleasure. However, this was also due to our late departure time, as we only left at 2pm. It looked even better during our ascent, but it got wetter and wetter.
Risks
On the ridge of the Steinberg you can see that snow has been transferred from north to south slopes. On the Lodron you can see that snow has also been transferred from west to east slopes, otherwise we have not made any observations on the route, which is almost continuously less than 30 degrees steep.
Overall impression
My first ski tour since the short intermezzo in November, so despite the snow not being as good as I had hoped, it was a great day personally
