Ski tours around the Bamberger Hütte in the Kelchsau from 22.2 to 26.2
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Generally not good snow conditions either, but more can be done here with less snow than in some other areas. This means that almost all tours can be carried out quite reasonably, often blown off on the west side. The fresh snow on Friday, February 24th amounted to an average of around 15 cm. This improved the situation a little. There is almost no contact with stones, which is something you still have to talk about at the beginning of March... The hiking trail on the last few meters to the parking lot has a few stones, so you will soon have to carry a few meters here.
Snow quality
The sun already has a lot of power and quickly crusts sun-exposed slopes. It was quite cold on Saturday and the fresh snow was therefore great to ski on. On Sunday 26.2 it was very warm and very diffuse radiation. Quality should therefore be poor almost everywhere. Saturday 4 stars, currently only something between 1 and 2 stars for sure.
Risks
Demanding and challenging conditions, but the terrain is often very humane so that a lot can be done even in tense conditions. On Saturday, February 25, three avalanches were triggered by winter sports enthusiasts in this valley. A remote triggering on Salzsachgeier, a very large group had an incident towards Schwebenkopf with helicopter intervention, a smaller board was kicked off on Tristkopf. However, the situation should ease further due to the very warm and diffuse day on Sunday
Overall impression
The current snow conditions allow quite solid tours in the area. But unless there is a lot more to come, the season will be very short here. Participants had a cool course, the conditions were well suited for it. As always, the hut owner is "super"...
