The snow conditions in the Langer Grund are excellent. In the deep forest, on open areas, whether close to the ridge or in the valley, there is plenty of snow everywhere. In the northern Alps, this is definitely one of the places with the best snow conditions. A little further east in the Kitzbühel Alps there is less, for example in Fieberbrunn. But this difference doesn't make much difference as there is simply enough snow there. 15cm of cold, fresh powder.

On the north side, the old snow surface has not yet hardened much and the 10-15cm of very cold powder was excellent to ski. As soon as it gets crusty underneath, of course, it's not so good.

Risks

Relaxed on our tour. However, the cold temperatures make the possible drift snow fields very brittle and favor the release readiness. The loose powder snow is usually completely unbound on the old snow surface and can therefore be transported very easily. I can well imagine surface ripeness as a problem for the next few days.

Unfortunately, a pin on my Marker King Pin broke off on the ascent. In hindsight, it's pretty stupid, because if this had happened on another tour in the last few weeks, it could have ended really badly. If Marker had a decent customer service, I would have saved myself this post. I was able to fix it pretty well with a skistrap from G3. These things are really worth their weight in gold, they also come in a PowderGuide version.
Nevertheless, a good tour and it wasn't that cold. You know it and you take more with you. We definitely had too much to wear.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
