Variant skiing in the spring foehn
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still a solid blanket of snow. However, the temperatures are affecting it. The first green patches are appearing in southern and western exposures. But you can still reach the valley without any problems. However, you should now keep your eyes open again, as streams and other terrain traps are slowly but surely reappearing. For your information: the forest path along the Saukaserbach has been intensively cleared. It is still possible to ski, but with the current temperatures this will not be possible for much longer, which means a longer walk.
Snow quality
The quality was quite mixed today. At the summit there was a strong foehn wind, which delayed the firn formation, followed by firn and a transition to swamp further down. Due to the high temperatures, it all happened quite quickly. Even in northern exposures it was already quite damp and deep by midday.
Risks
The main danger today came from sliding snow and wet snow slides. It quickly became quite damp today and swampy at lower altitudes. Avoid slopes with sliding snow cracks at all costs! On the Kleiner Rettenstein you could still see snow plumes (drift snow).
Overall impression
Half a day in the area in mixed conditions and sometimes with poor ground visibility. There were a few solid turns and the coffee and cake weren't bad either ;).
