Snow condition
There's still nothing in the valleys. The start of the tour today was just about feasible in open areas from just under 1000m, but there's nothing on the ground in the forest up to 1300, it's all on the trees. At 1200m in open areas it was already 30 to 40 cm thick, and 20 to 70 cm more variable towards the top with increasing exposure to the wind. We were only on the north side up to around 1600m. There was only a little old snow on the shady side too, but the massive new snow, which still shows all the unevenness but has buried sharks surprisingly effectively.
Snow quality
Powder snow. The lower the altitude, the better the setting. Below 1400m in the late afternoon moistened/difficult, above that very good.
Risks
3s above the tree line, 2s below and wind signs further up were clearly visible. The snow cover made quite a solid impression on the outside, having fallen all at once. There was more gliding snow on our tour, but nowhere to be seen yet.
Overall impression
Dream weather, finally snow, alone, downhill (almost to the parking lot) and amazingly good snow conditions made yesterday an unexpectedly round AlmwiesnTour.
