Snow condition
Generally speaking, not much positive has happened compared to last week due to the snowfall. On the sunny side, the snow is slowly but surely disappearing due to the mild temperatures. On the north side, however, you can now reach the valley with the help of forest paths. However, many lines are not yet possible on the north side either; it's actually only possible in light forest or open areas. Some exposed areas have been more or less cleared by the wind. Temperatures in the summit region have not dropped below 0 °C overnight. During the short ascent, we noticed that the snow had no cover on the south side (!).
Snow quality
Heavily packed powder snow in the northern exposure. Good to ski where the wind could not work. Just 3 stars.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Altitude: 1300 m – 1900 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
Today's wind was no longer able to move the heavily settled snow. Due to the mild temperatures, the drift snow accumulations were quite well connected to the old snow cover. The main danger today in our altitude range came from terrain traps.
Overall impression
After the two Christmas holidays with the best weather and crowds, we still found untracked spots with a few meters of ascent today. Unfortunately, the possibilities are still limited. As with the snow quality, just 3 stars. More snow is urgently needed.
