Exposition
Snow condition
We had around 35 cm of fresh snow by this morning. The snow cover is generally not abundant. Stone contact should be expected, especially on the edges of the terrain. The following precipitation will only improve the snow conditions for a short time until the temperatures rise again.
Snow quality
Below 2300 m/2400 m, the snow immediately became much heavier with the first rays of sunshine (around midday). Above that, the sun and temperatures had no negative impact on the fresh snow. The bottom line is 3 stars.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Above: 2000 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
There was some blasting success in the area. Fresh accumulations of drift snow have fallen behind the edges of the terrain (see also the picture). In some cases, there was sleet in the snow cover. The situation will become much worse with the forecast snowfall.
Overall impression
Nice day on the Kitz. It was very busy on the glacier and almost everyone was out and about in the terrain, so everything was tracked quite quickly.
