Snow condition
Another 15cm overnight, a total of around 60cm since Thursday. This means we are now just above the snow level at the end of November. As there is hardly any base and the light fresh snow offers hardly any resistance, the sinking depth is great and ground contact is almost certain. Stone equipment is definitely worthwhile!
Snow quality
Great to ski, but be careful with powerful turns. In the lower part of the snowpack you can feel the drift snow. On the south side, there was already a slight cover in the afternoon from a certain inclination.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: strong
Above: 1200 m
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
The blasting successes were quite small for the critical situation announced and also over 40°. Assessment not easy due to snow-covered drift snow. Below the tree line, stones, terrain traps and inadequately snow-covered obstacles are at least as dangerous as avalanches. Crossings in particular have been a real pain after the first few people. I also got stuck badly on a stone once and flew off upside down. Luckily not much happened.
Overall impression
As strong as the urge for powder is, it is dangerous in more ways than one. You shouldn't go into the turns with too much euphoria. Nevertheless, another great powder day! Unfortunately, it's going to be a lot worse from tomorrow onwards with rain...
