Ski tour from Baad: surprisingly hard snow
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
No change since yesterday, of course: The south-facing slopes are either covered in snow or only with very little snow, even at higher altitudes. It's getting tighter and tighter!
Snow quality
Mei, you could actually only give it one star. There were a few nice turns in the slab powder at higher altitudes. However, unlike yesterday, it was only soft on the south-facing slopes at midday, otherwise it was icy all the way down to lower altitudes. As soon as there were old tracks in the previously soaked snowpack, it really knocked your teeth out. I would have expected it to be softer.
Risks
LLB below 2000m 1, above that a 2. I would confirm that. The chance of falling off or losing a ski was greater today than anything else. Even on the south side, there was no rotten snow at higher altitudes at midday. I can't say what it looked like down south. However, a few wet snow avalanches of official proportions have come down in the last few days. Just a reminder: It's January!
Overall impression
You should actually give it one star. But the tour today was very nice, everything went well, the weather held out and I still have all my teeth in, so I would even give it three stars. Here is the average. It's supposed to rain tonight - horror! Tomorrow will probably be a good day for the tax return or for the long overdue visit to granny!
