Far too little spoon under the (h)ass lid
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Less snow than usual. Mountain pines peek out like rarely before. 20-30 cm of fresh snow on the Walmendingerhorn. Maybe only 10 cm at the valley station
Snow quality
It was never cold powder. By midday there was already heavy snow on all the sunny slopes. Only on the north side was it dustier. But often interspersed with ice and wind slabs. Old avalanche boulders are still coming through in the worst wayIn the forest it's possible with wood contact but it's not safe for people and equipment in the long run
Risks
It was extremely busy on the walmi. The Ifen was fine. The "powder" stress factor was surprisingly high. Everything was skied and was already completely tracked in the early morning. Maybe it was also because there was a sign with avalanche level 2 at the bottom despite the 3...there were some successful blasts. Loose spontaneous avalanches from steep slopes...otherwise relatively little activity. I had expected worse. But there was comparatively little fresh snow
Overall impression
Good powder safari between Walmi and Ifen. Still quite rewarding on the north side. Otherwise there was only a hint of this alarm. I recommend a tour rather than a ski resort for the next few days. I've never stood at the Walmi valley station for 40 minutes during the week... Things happen.
