Snow condition
Started without rock contact from Baad. All tours feasible. Even on the south side. Below 1200m a little less base available but still good.
Snow quality
One of the best days of the season in terms of snow quality. Up to 45 cm of powder on the summit slope without wind. At the bottom it gets less but at the start at 1000m you still have 20cm. In the steepest terrain you can no longer see your line because of all the spray Below 1600 m it gets a bit more difficult here, it probably wasn't cold enough yesterday. Old, hard lumps of ice can be felt from the tree line onwards
Risks
Exercise 1800 actually a 3 today. Were a bit torn as to whether it was true today or not. Large cornices mostly descending towards the northeast show the wind was at the start last week. Very large cornices also on many other peaks in different exposures. However, the fresh snow came largely without wind. There were only traces of wind in the ridge area and on wind-exposed slopes. These were clearly visible. In the afternoon, the wind started to pick up slightly and moved some loose snow to the east. However, most of the pow was unbound and we could certainly have skied steeper today. Nevertheless, our gut feeling told us to ski defensively with a maximum of 35 degrees and that was certainly the right decision. Apart from loose snow and an old snow-covered gliding snow mouth on the summit slope of the Höferspitze, no descents were observed today.
Overall impression
Picture book conditions. There has hardly been such good powder so far this winter. Finally not too much. Not too heavy. Not too warm. Just ice-cold powder
