Snow condition

Extremely little snow in the area. Even the areas in Kleinwalsertal (around Baad and Ifen), which are normally known for their abundance of snow, are practically without snow: but things are surprisingly good on the Ifen thanks to the new snowmaking infrastructure. They've gone all out here ...

Snow quality

1 von 5 Sterne

Hard, icy, so-called technical snow. Thanks to its south-facing exposure, it is somewhat softened in places on the descent. You can also ski in sections next to the already groomed piste. This is more pleasant because it is much less rough ...

Risks

There is too little snow for this to be relevant. Even in the lee of the Ifen plateau, skiing is only possible in snow-covered gullies. In some sections there is still something like old powder.

Overall impression

2 von 5 Sterne

The opening of the ski area is planned for 17.12. (picture 1). Due to the fact that snowmaking and grooming has been going on for days, this is currently probably the only possibility for ski touring in the Allgäu (in this case still off-piste). The snowmaking stops approx. 150m below the Hahnenköpfle mountain station. (Massive investments have been made here. There is a snow cannon every 50m. There are several snow-covered slope variants, including the installed electricity and water pipes). From there, you can continue on foot and in sections on skis to the Ifen summit (picture 2-4). The summer trail is currently quite easy to walk on. The steel cables have been dismantled. Crampons are recommended, but from the summit plateau you can see the whole situation quite well (pictures 5 and 6). By the way, from about 2.30 pm yesterday it started to rain quite intensively, up to about 1900m. The starting position has certainly not improved as a result! With gifpeloption 2 stars, the rest is currently only worthwhile for idealists ...

Note on Conditions Reports
