Variations of snow cover

The snow conditions are ok for the time of year, but it could do with some replenishment for spring. The rocks are all still well covered on the south side, but the extremely blown-off ridges in the entire area are striking.

Breakable crust
Firn

With the right timing, suitable exposure and appropriate steepness, you can find good firn on south and southeast-facing slopes and gullies. The rest is very blown/wind-affected and irregular.

Risks

Diurnal warming
West

Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)

The main danger at the moment is the risk of falling on the hard snow surface on the ascent, wet snow and sliding snow. Sliding snow should therefore be avoided at all costs, the other dangers can be adequately mitigated with a good choice of route and good timing.

Overall impression

Equal

Very nice day of touring in Kühtai with a steep descent that is really impressive in the current conditions. In terms of snow, it's probably a very good option to go for firn this week. This should get better and better in the coming days. However, this of course depends on the exposure and steepness, for us it was good today at 10.45 am in south-east exposed terrain.
