Snow condition
Below 1500m, the snow is partly only on grass. At 2200m, ridges are blown off. There is just enough snow to descend from le Tour to Argentière on the road. As there were no buses for about 2 hours, this was the only way back down to the valley.
Snow quality
Below 1800m unfortunately somewhat damp to even wet at around 1400m. The snow line will drop a little during the course of the day. The snow is not a light fluff but slightly damp and touched by the wind in many places. On some flat slopes around the Arve lift there was no wind throughout the day and the snow quality was such that it was fun and you could pick up speed.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Today was a 4. That certainly applies to higher and steeper areas. There was hardly any wind in the ski area itself, just over 2000m below, and the snow was also wetter. No cracks or anything like that in the snowpack, just a wet snow slide in the steep forest. The avalanche situation is unlikely to improve over the next few days. There was a little less snow than announced, but we'll see what happens tomorrow and how the danger situation develops.
Avalanche activity
Wet snow avalanche
Altitude: 1500 m
Overall impression
Unfortunately, visibility was quite limited today. Mystical atmosphere in the ski resort of le Tour with few crowds and hardly any lifts open. After Grands Montets didn't open in the morning, we made our way to le Tour. Here it was already over on the 2nd run because we were stuck in a blocked chairlift for a good 30 minutes. Just before I would have jumped off, luckily we were able to continue and the rest of the day was spent on the platter lift. On the way home I was almost flashed on the road on skis. Then got stuck in the bus again due to broken doors - in short, a varied day that promotes a healthy composure.
