Skitour Rainberg - Galtjoch - Hintere Steinkarspitze ab Rauth
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There is a place on the road below where you have to unbuckle. On the descent from the Galtjoch towards the Hintere Steinkarspitze, I once felt stones on the sunny side during a crossing. Otherwise you could ski everywhere without hesitation. But there's not much snow at the top either.
Snow quality
80% was rather strenuous but ok to ski, deep slush, broken snow and the like. There was still powder in places in the shade, and some good firn on the sunny side.
Risks
Saw several self-triggered, old snow slabs near the summit in northeastern exposure. Signs of wind were also clearly visible at the top. Above approx. 2000m I would still be cautious, especially on the shaded side, below that it has been raining instead of snowing so most of it should be fine. It's certainly getting safer quickly now
Overall impression
Beautifully scenic tour in fantastic weather, the first part beautifully lonely. At the Galtjoch it was like free beer: D
