Overall impression
Snow condition
Despite the ongoing anti-cyclone, there is enough snow from 1300m above Termignon (picture 1), our starting point. The persistently warm temperatures and warm southerly winds have robbed some of the southern slopes of their white splendor up to altitudes above 3000m. From 2000m northwards there is more than 130 cm of snow.
Snow quality
The snow quality is particularly good in the northern direction: there is cold, compact powder snow (picture 3, below the Roc Noir). In all other directions there is crushed snow, but it thaws in the sunshine and is pleasant to ski on.
Risks
We have not seen any new avalanches in five days, but snow slabs have come down in all orientations, some of them very large, and in the south, below the Grande Motte (Tignes), wet loose snow avalanches and ground avalanches are visible.
Overall impression
Very nice tour of the CAF GI counter-clockwise around the Pointe de Sana. The well-equipped, unserviced huts (gas, firewood, blankets), coupled with plenty of sunshine, made the tour a pleasure. Only the weight of the backpack slightly diminished the very good overall impression.
