We have to wait some months but at the end a nice snowfall has arrived! Now the snow conditions are wonderfull with a superficial loose snow layer of about 20-30 cm, really nice to ski.
Snow quality
With the beautiful snowfall, the snow quality has strongly improved. On all aspects and elevations, except for steep Southern slopes, below the treeline, it is possible to make wonderful off-piste runs.
Risks
With snowfall and moderate winds, the main avalanche problem was related to, generally medium sized, soft slabs, widespread in all the aspects. Mainly during the snowfall and the day after, the soft slabs were really reactive. Above the treeline, within the snowpack, persistent weak layers are recorded; in isolated cases, the avalanches could still be triggered along these layers and increase their sizes. Several natural avalanches were observed, both loose snow avalanches and soft slabs, generally medium sized. We recorded some, small and medium sized, triggered avalanches by single skiers.
Overall impression
Finally we got really nice powder snow and the off-piste conditions really improving! Let's hope this beginning will bring a wonderfull March!
