Crans-Montana. Snow evolution
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Almost everything is rideable without any significant rock contact. Bumps are still noticeable, however, and the south-facing slopes, which are very exposed to the sun, reveal scree cones and mountain pines here and there below 2500.
Snow quality
Everything you know. Except really hard stuff. Slush, set spring powder. Cold northern powder, wind-harsh, break-harsh, load-bearing lid. Non-bearing lid. Heavy sticky snow. Rotten snow etc. With the strong warming 7 Graf at 2000m at 13h30 we went through the whole evolution once.
Risks
Above 2800 where it remained cold on the shady side, I would be very careful on wind-loaded slopes. Apart from that, the snow on the knucklebreaker is a source of danger.
Overall impression
Good training program before the next powder alert. Hopefully the base that it still has will soon be properly replenished. Fortunately, the rain quickly turned to snow yesterday evening. So we can expect a good connection, which is a necessary condition for the big lines in the lower Valais. Winter will hopefully push spring out again soon. And Orakel will do the rest.
